The Great UnknownWhat can I say? Everywhere we look right now, we are faced with news and information on the current COVID-19 pandemic. We are in uncharted territories. Quite literally, there is not a single person living who has had experience with this type of wide-spread outbreak. But believe it or not, my goal is not to bring new information on the outbreak, or even focus on it. No, we press on with our mission to help kids have fun, make friends, and grow in their faith. Inside the pages of this newsletter, I want to highlight our summer camp plans, our dining hall addition, a plan to improve our beach landscape and the potential impact COVID-19 could have on camp. Although we we will discuss COVID-19 a little bit, I hope this newsletter will provide you with a little bit of reprieve from the crisis at hand. Through it all, we fix our eyes on our Heavenly Father. This does not surprise him, nor does it puzzle him. As Jeremiah prayed, “O Sovereign Lord! WWW.LOSTTIMBER.ORG  Changes to RegistrationFirst off, at this time, we are planning to hold our summer camp programs. We are drawing up plans right now to take extra precautions to try to prevent the spread of this virus. We always take the safety of your children very seriously and the protocol we are creating will be in place regardless of whether or not we are past this crisis. Camp Registration Changes We continue to accept camp registrations and we encourage you to register your children for camp right away to make sure you have a bunk reserved for your kids. We have made a few registration changes due to the current situation and the uncertainty of the future. Bunk Reservations - We will reserve their bunk without the need to pay a deposit. Cancellations - We will accept COVID-19-related cancellations with no penalty. If you decide to cancel your child’s registration, we simply ask for notification as soon as you make that decision so we can open the spot up to another camper. Payments & Deposits - Once we have clarity for our summer plans we will provide a two-week window of time for you to make payment/deposit to continue to hold your child’s spot at camp. Already Paid Registrations - Families that have already made a payment will receive a full refund in the event that we are unable to hold camp, or if you decide not to send you child to camp due to COVID-19 concerns.  Dining Hall Addition ProgressPlans are underway to begin construction of our dining hall addition this spring! First, we will install drainage tile around the entire building and below the site of the addition. Then we will install piers, followed by concrete. Once the concrete cures, we will press on and begin constructing the addition. To date, we have $205,600 in the bank ready for this project. We estimate that it will take a total of $300,000 to finish off the interior. We believe that we have enough money right now to get the exterior finished off. Our plan is to go as far as we can and then wait until more money is available for the project. Volunteering We are looking for volunteers with all types of skill sets. Even if you don’t think you have a skill, we can still put you to work on this project. We’d love to have you volunteer! You’re welcome to stay at camp and we would feed you very well. Beach Improvements ComingWe were blessed with a grant from the Monogram Loves Kids Foundation (Monogram Foods) to make improvements to our beach. We will be pouring concrete in our equipment shed and purchasing a new swim raft to replace our current raft which is beyond repair. We will also be building a boulder retaining wall to separate the sand from the grass, and flattening out the grassy area to create more usable space. We would love to purchase new fishing equipment and a fishing pier for the beach as well, but that will likely happen down the road when more funds become available. The start date is planned for this spring as soon as the weather allows. If you have experience running a skid steer or working on this type of project, we would love your help!  Updating Curb AppealMany times, drivers have driven past our driveway only to have to back up or turn around to bring their kids to camp. At the same time, our entrance sign, which was installed as a temporary sign 10 years ago, is showing it’s age and deteriorating. We have plans in place to make improvements to camp’s “curb appeal” and install a new entrance sign. The sign will be visible from both directions and larger so drivers have a better chance to see it with enough time to slow down and turn into our driveway safely. Currently, we are in the process of obtaining a permit from the county for this sign. In our situation, this involves a couple of public hearings with the county. We hope to have the permit by May and could begin construction soon after, depending on our financial situation at the time.  Camp ScholarshipsIt has always been our desire to provide funds for kids to come to camp regardless of their financial ability to pay for their registration. We currently have approximately $5,000 in our scholarship fund. Every summer, we award $10,000-$12,000 in scholarships to families who are unable to afford the full cost of summer camp. Given the current events and economic outlook for our country we expect that this summer could reach a new high in scholarships awarded. If you are able, would you consider paying the registration fee for a camper to attend camp? The cost of a week of camp is $245.
